Unruly Edges is a beautiful essay by anthropologist Anna Tsing that explores how life emerges through interdependence, collaboration, and the unpredictable relationships between humans and other species. I studied this text extensively during my academic research, and I made these illustrations as a way of visualizing some of its abstract ideas. I was particularly drawn to concepts that I found both beautiful and complex, and wanted to understand them through images as well as words. Ideas such as interdependence, human supremacy, and multispecies life acquire another layer of meaning when they are drawn and seen as images, rather than existing only as text.
